House No. 3, 80 Feet Road, Indiranagar, Bangalore – 560038
March 23. 2012.
The Island is a newly opened resto lounge in foodie heaven Indiranagar. The convenient location and beautiful look of the exterior beckoned me and we decided to head here on a Friday evening. The management I heard is from the recently closed The Beach lounge on 100 feet road hence the sand-y theme 😉
Having reached around 8 p.m. we did not have to wait and the charming hostess led us in. Initial impressions of this place are outdoorsy, airy, beach themed and lots of water – fountains, panels under the floor, etc.
The seating areas are all over the place. They have larger tables in the open middle area as well as the closed floor. I also saw a charming tree house concept but alas it was for bigger groups so we skipped it. Next time’s the charm!
We chose a smaller table just off the closed area and it was a great view to the entire place. Candlelight dinner for me and my sweetie 😀 and everyone else in the outdoor seating. The only negative was I could not take pictures without the flash as it was night so the food pictures looked too bright. Ah well, maybe a noon visit next time!
We started off with drinks and a starter as it was quite early for dinner. I settled for the Blue Lagoon cocktail & hubby went for the Long Island Ice Tea. To munch with the drinks, we chose the Kafta seasoned Cottage Cheese starter.
The Kafta seasoned Cottage Cheese was brought to the table along with a small grill which doubled as a heater. The cottage cheese pieces were incredibly soft and fresh, the veggies in between were satisfactory as well. The portions were pretty good and were accompanied by a mint sauce along with some vinegar soaked veggie pieces. Nice!
The restaurant was getting packed in the meantime so we decided to order the main courses by now. After a long ‘should i take this or that one… oh wait, this sounds great’, we selected the ‘Baked cheesy Seafood Macaroni’ and ‘Steak Mushroom Fries’. Believe me, you will want to go back and try other main courses because they have a some great options there in vegetarian as well as non-vegetarian food.
Baked cheesy Seafood Macaroni… Absolutely the BEST ever seafood pasta I’ve had anywhere. There was prawns, squid, probably crab as well. The overall taste was cheesy and mind-blowing. To all the seafood lovers, do try this one! The portion was massive and I just couldn’t finish the whole dish so I got it packed. Made for an awesome lunch the next day 😉
The Steak Mushroom Fries was a good main course as well. Well-cooked and the right touch of marination and sauce. Of course, hubby finished it all unlike me and he liked it!
With our tummies close to bursting, we decided to skip out the desserts and there wasn’t much of a choice anyways.
The service is impeccable – friendly without being overbearing. The staff was knowledgeable and gave good suggestions on the main courses. Thumbs up guys! The bill was close to 2k but considering the portions and the amazing food, its a great place to hangout – with family or friends.
