No. 5/2A, Jagrithi, Ramagondanahall, Varthur Main Road, Whitefield, Bangalore

The Fat Chef was a restaurant recommended highly and we nearly went there twice but ended up elsewhere. While driving towards Forum Value Mall one weekend, I spotted this place (hard to miss as it’s on the varthur main road!). It is situated inside an apartment complex with ample parking space.
The actual restaurant is not visible at first as you see the theater called Jagriti. I glanced inside and it was huge! Must come back some day when there’s an event happening.
The restaurant itself is quite charming and laidback, with plenty of sunlit areas inside and outside. The menu was chalked on blackboards outside (reminds one of the cafes abroad) and I read on their FB page that they don’t have a fixed menu and change as per the food cooked on that day! What I recommend: have one of those boards inside as well, it is very inconvenient to stand there and order as you enter especially in bigger groups!
There were several seating areas and we chose one which was at the middle of the bungalow. It was under a skylight, bright and airy! Since we were in a large group, we needed a bigger table and the others (in the patio area) were already reserved. Note: reserve in advance on weekends as they have a sizable crowd here.
The greenery ensured that the patio area outside was cool inspite of the scorching sun above. Good choice of seating for couples 😉
The menu is an interesting mix of Indian and World Cuisine. There was some good stuff on the board and we spent some time deciding on the orders. Since we were all ravenous, we decided on multiple orders.
Here’s what we ordered: Beer Batter Prawns, Prawns Shaslik, Beef Steak, Pepper Chicken Steak, Fish in a Bag, Tomato Fish Fillet, Cottage Cheese Steak, Grilled Chicken with stuffed Prawns and Cheese, Pear Walnut Lettuce salad and Watermelon Juice.
Since there were so many yummy dishes, we tasted everything and to put it in a nutshell, it was amazing! The prawns, chicken, beef, fish was outstandingly fresh and the sauces complimented them perfectly. The salad was crisp, cold and fresh. The juice was fresh and deliciously thick!
The combination of various veggies and mashed potatoes with the dishes were balanced well with the main courses.
Just one minor point – when we were finished with the main courses, we decided to order the salad right at the end. The server actually asked ‘you want to have the salad after so many main courses?’ Struck us as a weird comment!
Apart from the minor point above, the rest of the service was very attentive and the manager who spoke to us was knowledgeable and friendly. The meal costed close to 3500 (Rs.) with all the taxes thrown in.
I would definitely visit again for the wholesome flavors and unique food at the Fat Chef.
