Mama Mia! Gelato. With a tagline that says – An Italian Experience. Now that’s because the Gelato recipes are from the brains of chef Danielle of Italy. I had read an article sometime back about the owner getting inspired by the Gelato she had in Italy and started operations in Kolkatta, India. The Bangalore branch is around a couple of years old.
Gelato… what does it mean? Wikipedia puts it as: the italian word for ice cream and sorbet! This ice cream parlor is strictly for those who have a sweet tooth (regardless of how much you resist!) Oh and for the diet-conscious, their Gelatos are between 96%-100% fat free… depending on which flavor you choose! Now that’s something sweet for the ears isn’t it?
The menu runs the whole gamut from sundaes to scoops to cakes. The Gelatos are refreshing and fresh which means you will go back for seconds. I also spotted some Gelato cakes on offer.
The place comes alive at night mostly post dinner time and although there is comfortable seating, it would be a good idea to just walk out with your Gelato. Now since we ordered the Gelato Shots Trio which is a platter of gourmet sundae shots, we couldn’t just take a scoop and walk. So we sat and watched the others bite into various yummy looking flavors.
The Gelato shots took around 10 minutes as it is individually created and takes time. But boy, it was a sight to behold when it finally arrived at the table. Then it was a case of neighbors envy, our pride
3 small shot glasses perfectly filled up with rich looking sundaes. One of the first we tasted was the Blueberry shot which had blueberries, pomegranate, mango bites on top along with fresh cream… yummy!
The next shot looked super delicious as well. A chocolate biscuit drizzling with warm chocolate sauce on a bed of chocolate chips and crushed biscuits. Strictly for chocolate lovers only!!! Else you could be numb with the sweetness, I kid you not!
The third one was butterscotch. Now this flavor is something I never liked, probably because of the nuttiness. It was not such a bad taste however.
The self-service counter ensures that you get the Gelatos quickly. However when we ordered the trio shots, the person behind the counter didn’t seem to understand (probably no one had ordered it before?!) Someone else hurried over and took the order. Guys, please hire service who understand plain and simple English, not too much to expect I hope!!!
The shots trio costed close to 200 (Rs.) with all the taxes thrown in. Bit on the higher side for those who can’t understand why desserts cost so much but well worth the amount spent!
