First Floor, Phoenix Market City Mall, Whitefield, Bangalore – 560048

California Pizza Kitchen. One of those intriguing names which I’d never heard of! Seriously!!!
On looking up their website, I found that they have branches in Mumbai and nowhere else. This was their first branch in Bangalore.
The first look of the place was very neat. Resembles those US diners where the partitions between sections are upto the eye level. The seating is comfortable and the place is warm and inviting enough for curious newbies.
We had no idea about the kind of food being served here. Of course since it had Pizza in the name, that was a foregone conclusion 😉
The menu was nicely divided into salads, pizzas, pasta and sandwiches. I almost went for what my companion ordered – Pesto Creme Penne (great minds think alike?) But I had to try their pizza so I chose – Fire Roasted Vegetarian Pizza with thin crust.
The Pesto Creme Penne arrived first looking creamy, greeny & yummy 😀 It had nice lashings of spinach & tomato in it and smelled good. First bite of this and I was blown away! No words can describe the taste which was fabulous. I’ve had pasta in innumerable joints but this was perfect. Full marks to the chef 🙂
The Fire Roasted Vegetarian Pizza arrived almost 20 minutes after the pasta (more on the delay in the service section below). The pizza looked colorful and the super thin crust was a delight to see. The veggies were fresh, the grated cheese on top was yummylicious & the crust was very earthy and close to the italian pizza (much better than the actual pizza-only places everywhere!). Made a mental note to go back and try the other pizzas soon 🙂
The service was strictly okay! The major complaints I have are these: 1) when the person who seats you says ”your order will be taken by another server” and you ask him to repeat because you cannot understand the mumbling under his breath 2) the Pizza was late by 20 minutes and just when you thought they forgot all about it, the server arrives and says ”are you waiting for something?… errrr! oh your pizza!” and rushes back to get it. Sorry but I expect a little bit more attention especially when it’s a new place!
P.S. I did notice an open seminar on customer service for the serving guys happening in one corner of the restaurant. Possibly the service should be better the next time!
Like I mentioned in another restaurant review, the food court at Phoenix mall does not have great options for those wishing to try different stuff. California Pizza Kitchen has made a great start with the food so it can only get better from here 🙂
