Ground Floor, Phoenix Market City Mall, Whitefield, Bangalore – 560048
December 11. 2011.
Cafe Noir is one of those quiet restaurants tucked away amidst the bright and glaring boards of KFC in Phoenix Mall. The open sidewalk seating and chilled out vibe appealed at first sight and the fact that the noisy couples and kids were mostly next door proved a boon!
They have another branch in UB city mall which is again a open-air seating place. Made a mental note to try that as well.
The menu is a mix of quiches, pastries, burgers, sandwiches, shakes… you get the drift! It’s what I like to call comfort food, some might call it street food from the US. And I love to try new places than go for the usual burger spots.
Having scanned the menu, we settled for the ‘Cafe Noir Grilled Beef Burger‘ & ‘Fish & Chips‘. The order was taken from a smiling server and he was discreet in his entire service later on.
The Grilled Beef Burger arrived with onion rings, coleslaw, potato wedges & the usual veggies on the side. I grabbed a bite of the potato wedge and it was perfect, not too oily and not too spicy/salty. The Beef was cooked medium well and tasted super!
The ‘Fish & Chips‘ was however a massive letdown on first sight. Looked and tasted more like cottage cheese pakoda than fish. The batter was too thick and it was over-fried. Having tried the original duo in London, this was a disaster dish! On one bright note - The fish itself was quite fresh and tender The tartare sauce was okay!
The service was attentive and like I said, discreet yet prompt. The meal costed close to 600 (Rs.) with all the taxes thrown in.
The food court at Phoenix mall does not have great options for those wishing to try different stuff so this place comes as a great alternative. Stay clear of the Fish & Chips and you’ll do just fine.
